Milarepa, mountain hermit yogi of Tibet, represents the universal path from confusion to clarity. Milarepa studied and practiced black magic at his mother's request after being enslaved by his aunt, and through these means killed his aunt and family. In his remorse, he sought out a master teacher, which led him to Marpa who tested him by requiring him to build and rebuild a stone tower. This task purified his past karma and led him to his path as poet and yogi.
