The Kalachakra Mandala is a two dimensional depiction of a three dimensional five storied divine mansion, at the center resides the Kalachakra deity whose name means 'Wheel of Time', and represents the nature the universe itself. He is associated with the highest tantra, the practice of which destroys obstacles and reveals the secrets of the nature of reality. Depicted in the four corners around the mandala are deities related to the Kalachakra Tantra including the goddess Vasudhara, Karukulla, and White Tara.
This thangka was consecrated by monks as indicated by the marking on the back of the canvas around the deity and signature.
