Blue Dharma Wheel Mandala Thangka
Blue Dharma Wheel Mandala Thangka
One of the eight auspicious symbols, the Dharmachakra or Dharma Wheel represents the perfection of the dharma. The eight spoked Dharmachakra represents the Eightfold Path and is the most common form of the wheel in Buddhism. Around the wheel is the Chenrezig's mantra 'Om Mani Padme Hum'.
'Turning the dharma wheel' is a metaphor for Buddha's teaching. Traditionally, Buddha turned the wheel three times- the first was after Buddha's enlightenment where he explained the Four Noble Truths in Deer Park. The second was the the Perfection of Wisdom teachings on the nature of emptiness. The third was with the teachings on the doctrine of Buddha Nature.
